BIS STANDARD MARK/ISI MARK FOR FMCD

ISI Mark for FMCD, Since 2000 Foreign Manufacturers Certification Department issues ISI Mark for Foreign Manufacturers. BIS is responsible for FMCD BIS certification.
BIS Standard Mark or ISI Mark consists of Licence number as ‘CM/L-XXXXXXXXXX’ at the bottom of ISI Mark and Indian standard number at the top of above ISI Mark. This mark shall be rewarded by the Bureau of Indian Standards after the successful grant of the BIS Certificate.

REQUIREMENT

Foreign manufacturers aiming to export their products (BIS applicable) to India must first obtain a manufacturer certificate from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) by meeting specific requirements. The manufacturing unit must be located outside India.
Products must comply with applicable Indian Standards (IS).

The manufacturer must agree to the Scheme of Inspection & Testing (SIT) and pay the annual marking fee.

Key Steps for FMCS Certification

Submit Application:
1. Compile all required documents.
2. Submit the application with the necessary documents to BIS online and send a hardcopy to the FMCD department.
Application Verification:
1. BIS authority will verify the application.
Query Raised (If Any):
1. If any document, test equipment, or other requirement is missing or incomplete, BIS will communicate via email with the applicant.
Application Approval:
1. If the application is satisfactory, it will be recorded.
2. An acknowledgment number will be allotted for future reference.
Audit/Inspection:
1. BIS Officer will arrange a factory visit on a mutually agreed date.
2. Applicant to remit the inspection/audit fee.
3. BIS Officer will verify the manufacturing process, test infrastructure, and conduct product testing in the applicant’s in-house laboratory.
4. BIS Officer will collect the sample, seal it, and forward it for independent laboratory testing.
Sample Testing:
1. Collected sample will be sent to a BIS Approval Laboratory.
2. BIS (FMCS) will receive the test report.
3. The applicant firm will bear the charges for testing.
Grant of Licence:
1. If the inspection and test reports meet Indian Standards, the license will be granted.
2. The applicant must pay the license fee, advance minimum marking fee, and any outstanding dues.
3. The Letter for Grant of Licence will be issued.
